We had a great time on our 10 day trip, though it started with a 5 hour delay where we were stuck at the airport Saturday for nearly 9 hours. We never found out for sure what caused the delay but we heard we just missed a tropical storm the next day and it was quite humid for the first few days. We arrived on Maui at 12:30 am local time and our greeter presented us with our leis. (He looked a little tired…) We got our luggage and rental car without any problems. The rental counter lady was very helpful and gave us directions to our resort. “…. and when you see the Sheraton sign, you can’t miss it, your turn will be about another 5 miles.” We’re still looking for that sign. We did eventually find the resort and got checked in. We all got to sleep around 3:00 am local time and got up around 9:00 am.

Sunday we spend most of our time relaxing either in the unit or at the pool. We did our grocery shopping at the local Safeway… $6.00 for a gallon of milk. Stacy signed up for a Safeway card to save around $40.00.

Monday we had breakfast at Moose McGillycuddy’s (delicious breakfast) and we were recovered enough from the late flight that we decided to go to the Maui Ocean Center and got our best view of the local sea life for the whole trip and learned the Hawaiian word humuhumunukunukuapua’a meaning “triggerfish with a snout like a pig”. I saw a couple of those while snorkeling on our last day. We had lunch at the expensive Seascape Ma’alaea Restaurant at Maui Ocean Center. We all had the Fish & Chips (Ono) and enjoyed the lunch, though the fish & Chips was better at Cheesburger in Paradise.

Tuesday we spent relaxing again at the beach this time and wandering around Lahina Town shopping and eating Dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.. I had the Burbon Mahi Mahi and Stacy had the Dixie Style Baby Back Ribs. Branden didn’t like the fish & chips here, but he seemed moody so didn’t like anything… not even the dessert.

Wednesday we decided would be the day trip “The Road to Hana”. We stopped in Paia for Sandwiches and a CD guided tour. The CD was great to listen to during the drive and gave us all sorts of info and places to stop along the way. Though the waterfalls weren’t running very well, they were running and they made for pretty photos. The scenery was spectacular and it seemed that almost every time we got out of the car it started to rain.

Thursday we drove into Kehei to visit some of the resorts Stacy deals with for her business. It was hot and dry in Kehei and we weren’t impressed with the area at all and after lunch we went back to our resort to relax (It is vacation after all so relaxing is a big part of it!!!). The kids were quite sunburned at this time so we waited until night time to hit the pool.

Friday we let the kids back in the pool during the day and more relaxing.

Saturday we went into Lahina again and rode the Atlantis Submarine down to 130 feet below the surface where you can only see blue and yellow. The kids had a blast on the sub and we had great views of a couple of reefs and a shipwreck. We had lunch at Cheesburger in Paradise where the food was great and the view was better. Dinner was scheduled for the “Old Lahina Lu’au”

Sunday we changed resorts for our last night and the new room had a great view of the ocean. We spent most of the day at the beach where the kids let the waves push them around the beach. We rented boogy boards at “Boss Frogs” for Branden and Bailey and snorkeling gear for me for our last day on Maui.

Monday, our last day we spent the morning at the beach playing in the waves and snorkeling. We went into Lahina Town one more time and had dinner at Cheesburger in Paradise one more time. I took tons of pictures of the sunset and we packed into the car and drove to the airport.

Tuesday morning we arrived at LAX 5:30am local time and waited over 30 minutes for the lot B (you get what you pay for) Bus, packed up the Jeep and drove home. I picked Chinook up from the Kennel and then took a 4 hour nap. I woke up and found Stacy sleeping on the couch and the kids half asleep in front of their tv. Back to the real world.
